Welcome to Weingarten Children's Center, formerly known as Jean Weingarten Peninsula Oral School for the Deaf (JWPOSD)!
We are proud and excited to introduce the re-branding of the Jean Weingarten Peninsula Oral School for the Deaf. This is the latest iteration of the Peninsula Oral School for the Deaf. Established in 1967 by parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing children, POSD provided a much needed oral school for young children who were deaf or hard of hearing in the San Francisco Bay Area.
JWPOSD has been a model of excellence in providing listening and spoken language educational programs for children who are deaf and hard of hearing and specially for Early Intervention services. We expanded our program by adding a Family Center on the school campus to focus on the unique needs of families of infants and toddlers who were deaf and hard of hearing. Most recently in collaboration with Stanford School of Medicine/Stanford Ear Institute, we created BabyTalk, a Tele-Therapy program to serve rural families of 0-3 age DHH children across the state of California. As the new name indicates, the Weingarten Children's Center will always maintain serving children who are deaf and hard of hearing to listen, speak and learn as our primary mission, but with a plan for the future to further expand the scope of our services.
Weingarten Children's Center is distinctive for its emphasis on Cognitive Development, small and quiet classrooms augmented by intense support services. Our programs include, Infant, Toddler, Preschool and Kindergarten. We also provide services such as Early Childhood Education, Comprehensive Diagnostics, Pediatric Audiology, Speech and Language Therapy, Aural Habilitation, Literacy Programs, Sensory-Motor Therapy Programs, Social and pPragmatic groups and Music Education as well as Professional Training with our university partners.
